Absinthe City

Four nights in Prague (see the full photo album @ flickr)

A quick getaway down to the Czech Republic to help my former colleague Amanda celebrate her birthday.

They’re big on potatoes, absinthe and castles. In that order too preferably.

Apparently Prague also holds the title of most-old-people-wandering-about-in-tour-groups per square km.

Either way, it’s a hell of a change paying $4 for a glass of vodka, instead of the usual $15-$20 in Stockholm.

But as beautiful as the castles and cathedrals were, nothing could beat the sight of endless brands, sizes, colours and strengths of Absinthe. That beautiful green drink… picked up my souvenir bottle, wormwood and all.

I also couldn’t resist grabbing two litres of premium vodka for $40, especially considering it costs over $50 for 700ml in Sweden.

While much cheaper than Stockholm, alcohol prices have, sadly, almost doubled since the Czechs joined the EU a few years back. So a big :sadwavey: to cheap Eastern European liquor…
