Swedish Parker!

Accelerator Festivalen, two days of Swedish indie kids wandering around Stockholm University listening to some very cool music. It was quite possibly the most relaxed, fun little music festival ever staged.

No angry drunks barging through the crowd to get a better view of the stage, no shirtless bogans, no novelty outfits like guys in dresses or girls in skimpy nurses outfits, i.e. nothing like what we’re used to at the Big Day Out.

The lineup:

I spent my days with:

Menomena, Loney Dear, Electrelane, The Gossip, TV On The Radio, Peter Bjorn and John, Modest Mouse, CSS, and Interpol.

Frida Hyvönen, Gruff Rhys, The Long Blondes, José González, Junior Boys, Jens Lekman, Jamie T, Rufus Wainwright, and Bright Eyes.

Random highlights:

A reunion of Peter Bjorn and John and their original guest vocalist on the song “Young Folks” – Victoria Bergsman:
Although my camera battery died

Rufus Wainwright dressing up in drag and doing a cabaret number to finish his set.

José González covering Teardrop:

as well as playing a very nice version of Lovestain.

The Long Blondes – Giddy Stratospheres
This song hasn’t left my head since they played it.

Frida Hyvönen’s incredible voice.

Victoria Bergsman’s amazing set with her new group Taken By Trees.

Other randomness included Gruff Rhys (from the Super Furry Animals) playing around with his little toys to make some very odd noises.

Getting to see TV On The Radio for the first time.

Being possibly one of only two Aussies in the crowd for the only Australian band at the Festival – The Presets.

Enjoying beer that was actually cheaper inside the festival than out (again, nothing like the Big Day Out…).
